The International Student Recruitment staff works collaboratively across campus and across the world to recruit and enroll international students at UMBC.

The International Student Recruitment staff are here to support your existing recruitment activities or coordinate custom events to target prospective and admitted international students.

Prospective Student Recruitment

  • Graduate Admissions Coffee Chats: Connect with our team for a 30-45 minute in-person or virtual meeting to help us understand your enrollment goals, recruitment ideas, and department-specific admissions requirements for your program or department. These meetings help our team ensure we are communicating to prospective students and recruitment partners accurately and effectively. To request a meeting, please reach out to us at globalpartnerships@umbc.edu .
  • Host a Department or Program Specific Event: Our team can help coordinate custom program-specific information sessions targeting international students. These are customizable to your departmental needs and goals, but can include:
    • 30-minute open Q+A with prospective students regarding program overview and admissions requirements
    • 60-minute presentation and Q&A: structured presentation on UMBC’s campus highlights and general admissions requirements, with panel with current student Global Ambassadors, and Q+A with department faculty

Admitted Student Events

The International Student Recruitment staff are happy to join your scheduled admitted student webinars or assist in the scheduling and coordination of custom admitted student events for international students. Examples of previously coordinated events include:

  • Off-Campus Housing Resources for International Students (in collaboration with Retriever Support Services)
  • Global Student Welcome Event for Data Science Students (with the Division of Professional Studies)
  • UMBC-Shady Grove Graduate Q&A | International Students Applied & Admitted

Our team employs current student workers and graduate assistants as Global Ambassadors to create a welcoming and considerate community for UMBC’s prospective and admitted international students. By sharing their insights and personal experiences, the Global Ambassadors work to ensure that international students feel connected to the campus, in the classroom, and across the community.

The Global Ambassador Program offers a number of activities and events for international students to stay engaged and connected with peers and the campus community. This includes recurring virtual webchat series to explore campus opportunities and programs, hosting ways to get involved with academic program events and extracurriculars and developing projects, social media and website content to provide tips and insights into the international student experience.

Our team hires additional Global Ambassadors on an as-needed basis. When we are actively hiring, we will create a listing on Handshake and include the link to the application on this website.

 

Our team works with select international agencies and educational consultants around the globe to represent our campus to prospective students. Learn more about our agent application and onboarding process here.
